Riddles Penultimate Cafe and Wine Bar Description:
A longtime anchor in The Loop, Riddle's has one of the city's better wine lists and an always-pleasing selection of wines by the glass. Longtime chef-owner Andy Ayers, the offbeat, outspoken mastermind behind Riddle's, doffed his Cardinals' baseball cap to his daughter, K.T., who continues her father's commitment to the local sources they so diligently cultivated over the past 20 years. Seasonal menus read like a farm directory for the St. Louis region. For example, cured pork loin from Volpi, a noted St. Louis purveyor; duck breast Nicola uses organic Missouri shiitake mushrooms. We also suggest signature dishes like chicken Major Gray (with a curry blended by the local herb society) and shrimp Sara. This is a serious soup-house as well, and the homemade ice creams (among them spiced chocolate orange, Belgian chocolate and good old Oreo) shouldn't be missed. The bar, which tends to be crowded, offers live music nightly.
