Grbic Restaurant Description:
In many ways, Grbic is a throwback to an earlier South St. Louis, when European culture and generous platters of food were a given. But the Grbic family happens to be a more recent arrival from Bosnia, and its loving restoration of an old dairy helped it hurdle all kinds of cultural barriers. The fare, described as eclectic Eastern European, is heavily Bosnian, with influences of Germany (schnitzel) and Italy (tiramisu). Specialties include sarma, beef and rice wrapped in cabbage leaves, and cevapi, spicy Bosnian grilled sausage. And there is glorious goulash, good enough to make diners groan with delight. The fluctuating wine selection has an occasional high-quality surprise. Service can be erratic, even slow---which can be seen, only by the generous diner, as endearing---but the welcome is always warm.
