At India Chef, seasoning is tame by most Indian standards, so if you want your food zippy, specify that when ordering, as both mild and medium show no heat. Chicken tikka remains moist and flavorful. The star in this operation is the lamb, which may adorn a raft of choices. The lunchtime lamb curry is lovely over basmati rice, with a side of very nice raita made crunchy with shredded carrot. Express lunch, with soup (which we recommend) or salad, main dish of your choice and fruit-yogurt dessert is just $6.99. The soup may be a lentil broth studded with just a tiny nip of lemon, warming and flavorful. From the full menu, try the lamb pasanada; the creamy, mildly spiced yogurt sauce envelops tender, tasty chunks of lamb. Don't want lamb? Have it made with chicken. Chicken sag blends creamy spinach with chicken pieces. All meats are Halal in this restaurant, so it serves beef, unlike many Indian establishments. Samosas seem extra crispy and flavorful. Vegetarians have plenty to work with. Bringal bhajee (eggplant) is fine, although the seasoning could be livelier. Lunch buffets, offered on weekends only, are serious meal deals.
