Joe Greensleeves Description:
Generally considered to offer American fare but often has unique menu additions such as ostrich and elk. The restaurant is located in a historic, late 19th century brick building with the corresponding warmth and small-town feel. Cost is approximately $30 per person for dinner and $15 for lunch, although those on a budget can spend a minimum of $15 and $7.50, respectively. Not appropriate for large groups. Within walking distance of downtown shopping area.
One of the true standouts of the Inland Empire, Joe Greensleeves is a neighborhood eatery that would be a welcome addition to any neighborhood, whether Redlands or Beverly Hills. The restaurant's narrow room, with half the hull of a schooner mounted on one wall and a prominent fireplace on another, provides a cozy setting for the cooking of chef-owner Umberto Orlando, who toils in a glass-ensconced kitchen. Most of the linen-clad tables are comfortable booths illuminated by green-shaded banker's lamps, and the service is both knowledgeable and amiable. In addition to the house's signature steaks and chops (cooked over an orangewood grill), Orlando turns out some outstanding pastas, such as mushroom ravioli in luxurious cream sauce with peas and pancetta. A whole branzino, stuffed with garlic and rosemary, is boned at the table and paired with a simple but tasty salsa verde of Italian parsley, olive oil and garlic. A formidable dessert cart is stocked with a cannoli-mascarpone cheesecake, tarte Tatin and the zuccotto, a house specialty.
