The Duck & Dumpling Description:
The Duck & Dumpling is the fulfillment of chef-owner David Mao's dream. Chinese by birth, but trained in Vietnam, Mao's first Chinese American restaurant catered to the timid tastes of Southerners in the 1970s. Here Mao finds Raleigh diners are eager to experiment with the bolder flavors of classic Chinese and Vietnamese cuisines, reinterpreted by Mao. We especially admire the sea scallops with ginger oyster sauce and the filet mignon Chinois. Of course, any dish featuring the chef's handmade dumplings, always served with tangy Chinese coleslaw, should get serious consideration. When Mao prepares old standards such as hot-and-sour soup, you see his refined sensibilities. The dessert menu shifts directions with American classics such as Key lime pie, chocolate cheesecake and a warm apple tart, worth saving room for.
