Cornwall, PEI, Town, pop 4412 (2001c), 4291 (1996c), 4053 (1991cA), area 28.20 km2, inc 1966 as a village and 1995 as a town, is located 6 km west of CHARLOTTETOWN. Named after the Duchy of Cornwall in England, the community was originally known as Pye's Corner. The local school district was established in 1849, and in 1855 the post office was established. On 1 April 1995, 3 communities (Cornwall, Eliot River and North River) were amalgamated into the new town of Cornwall.
