The Heathman Restaurant and Bar Description:
This Portland icon is led by culinary director Philippe Boulot, a chef with broad experience and impeccable culinary instincts. The Heathman's menu---striking renditions of classic French and bistro dishes---is inspired by the best Northwest ingredients: wild mushrooms, fava beans, berries, wild salmon. The dining room is somewhat formal, yet also relaxed with a row of Warhol animal prints at one end and an open kitchen along one side. You'll find solid "French Northwest" cuisine, such as wild sturgeon Vallee d'Auge with potato risotto, beet tartare and apple glaze, braised pork belly with mascarpone polenta, or roasted quail. It's exciting to watch the menu change with the seasons. The notable wine list adds to the drama. This is the main place in town for power lunches, and there is absolutely no better restaurant at which to begin the day---the Heathman's breakfasts are legendary. Casual dining is available in the Marble Bar, while jazz and cocktails hold sway in the Tea Court.
