Portland's rich history comes alive at this nostalgia emporium, one of the city's oldest dining establishments, dating back to the 1870s. It still has all the trappings of a nineteenth-century saloon complete with mahogany paneling, brass-railed bar, flocked wallpaper, and huge Gothic mirrors. The present ownership traces its roots to a Chinese immigrant from Canton who stowed away and was shanghaied from a rival saloon in 1891 by one Frank Huber. For more than a century, Huber's has continually served up the basics: turkey any day of the year, not just on the fourth Thursday of November. The half & half, a combo of roast turkey and sugar-glazed ham, is the most popular menu item. There is an extensive selection of meat, seafood and pasta as well. A celebrated feature of Huber's is its famous flaming Spanish coffee.
