Naan serves upscale Korean food, with bits of Japan and the West thrown in for good measure, in a stylish setting that's proved popular with the locals. Some dishes excel, like the sushi salad (fresh chunks of top-notch sashimi are tossed with lettuce in a tangy sesame oil-based dressing), while others are truly disappointing, like the Korean pancake. Even though served on a hot cast iron skillet, it turned out to be a soggy mess of scallions, noodles and shrimp. Then there's just the plain weird: beef tartare appeared to have been squeezed through a noodle maker then smothered in sesame oil, a combination that didn't work on any level. The star of the show is the nod to traditional Korean barbecue made from prime beef short ribs in a salty, sweet, spicy glaze that melt off the bone and in your mouth.
