The flavors of the chef's homeland of Guadalajara, Mexico are the focus at this restaurant located in the "it" section of downtown. El Sol's guacamole is the freshest around. Nearly all of the dishes are available in any heat range, whether mild or fiery. Traditional entrées such as enchiladas are offered in a range of flavors, including seafood, and soft tacos come in seven varieties, either as singles or as a platter. Try the molcajetes, large volcanic rock bowls filled with house specialties such as the molcajete mixto (steak, shrimp, chicken) or the molcajete de mariscos (shrimp, scallops, tilapia). El Sol also boasts an impressive tequila list, serving only 100 percent pure agave tequila. Tasting flights range from $16 to $28. For teetotalers, the aguas frescas are a must-try. Agua de Jamaica, a hibiscus-flavored drink, is a delightful complement to anything on the menu.
