Barbeque Joint Description:
If you're looking for fancy, look somewhere else. But if you're looking for a simple, straightforward meal, check out The Barbeque Joint. Plain white bread is perched atop a mound of meat---your choice of chicken or pork---and the standard carbs and well-cooked vegetables round out the offerings. However, the red rice offered as a side item is totally Carolina. Daily specials, pegged to the day of the week, include sausage, brisket and fried fish---all outside the realm of traditional South Carolina 'cue. The "vin" (for vinegar-based) sauce is likely the best bet. Picnic tables and checkered tablecloths make sturdy seating for tucking into barbecue served on Styrofoam. A few iron tables and chairs make up the sidewalk seating. Note: Dinner service closes early, 6 p.m., but there's a brisk "to-go" business that might save the day.
