Chat 19 rounds out the trio of restaurants developed by owner Mario Fava in the Westchester area---the other two are Lusardi's and Moscato. With its chic yet laid back downtown New York City feel, the restaurant has carved out a stylish niche in Larchmont. Exposed brick walls and wood paneling set off the earth tones of deep reds and browns that define the space, while the American menu features grilled meat, fish and seafood. Try the tuna tartare, presented on a bed of tasty avocado; the wings, however, are nothing out of the ordinary and, if you opt for the spicy version, over-seasoned with chipotle. The highly recommended crab cakes are pleasing enough but suffer from too much filler, but the baked artichoke drizzled with a garlic butter marinade is a standout. Though some dishes shine, in the end, good but not great fare reminds us of Chat 19's true identity: a sharp choice for a first date, but more style than substance.
