You sit around a large grill and most of your food is prepared in front of you. The chefs have routines worked out (lots of flashing and flipping their knives) to entertain you as they cook. Their show is the main draw, more than the menu which is primarily grilled beef or chicken.
Long before this country's Pan-Asian and Pacific Rim culinary boom, there was Benihana. The restaurant continues to awe newcomers and kids with the dazzling dexterity of its knife-flipping chefs at the table, slicing, dicing and cooking teppanyaki-style before your eyes---dinner and a show, to say the least. From Japanese-style steak, chicken and seafood accompanied by a mound of rice and vegetables, this is one way to get the younger set to eat well.
