Muriel's Description:
The old, two-story stucco structure that houses Muriel's began life as a spaghetti factory on a picturesque corner of Jackson Square. It's one of the most enviable spots in town. On the ground floor, two very large rooms, festooned with a hodgepodge of antique prints and signs, bustle with guests. They've come to dine on neo-Creole food, which includes some of the staples of this cuisine. A gumbo of duck and andouille sausage hits the right earthy notes. The shrimp and crawfish cake is a fine piece of work. Entrées include roasted chicken stuffed with cornbread and duck confit. A moist, flaky baked flounder encloses shrimp and crawfish glistening in a beurre blanc. Oenophiles and single diners note: the wine list offers 50 half-bottles, including some sparkling wines and Champagnes.
