Don't be surprised if, on pulling up a chair at Mona's, you detect a bit of Amman or Jerusalem in the air. The concessions to Western tastes are few in this modest but sparkling-clean Middle-Eastern eatery, which shares space with a supermarket filled with specialties of the eastern Mediterranean. The traditional Middle-Eastern dishes---falafel, gyros, baba ghanouj and hummus---are done with native expertise. Marinades and spices are well composed, too. Lamb chops and kebabs, prepared with succulence and just the right char, are made with fresh, good-quality ingredients. The space is bright and airy, especially at midday, when the simple, but practical, blond-wood chairs and tables look their best. And the prices will put a grin on any skinflint's face.
