Jacques-Imo's Café Description:
Half the food at Jacques-Imo's is authentic Creole. The other half comes from chef-owner Jack Leonardi's toying with the ideas of authentic Creole cooking at this rather chaotic, almost-unclassifiable place near the Carrollton riverfront. The flavors aren't often squeaky clean here, but you won't find a longer or more ambitious menu executed so quickly and with such aplomb. Fried chicken and fried oysters, both moist and spicy and nicely cooked, are safe bets. Culinary adrenalin junkies will want to try scallops in jalapeño-pear sauce, smothered rabbit, and rich crawfish cheesecake; the elegant Cajun bouillabaisse should please those with more refined tastes. A reservation is a necessity if there are five or more in the party, but for others waiting up to an hour for a table is likely. Ultimately, you're seated in a space meant for half as many tables, in an atmosphere that might kindly be called funky. Somehow it makes sense under Leonardi's roof where, after all, a deep-fried roast beef po' boy counts as an appetizer.
