Cafe Giovanni Description:
For those who thought nothing new could happen in an Italian restaurant, Café Giovanni begs to differ. For almost two decades, chef Duke LoCicero has been serving his "New World Italian Cuisine" at Café Giovanni. This cooking is best described as the high-energy chef's take on such dishes as his lightly battered Oysters Giovanni, served on a plate painted with five sauces. Caesar salads are garnished with eggplant croutons. Louisiana Gulf fish is nicely grilled and served with jumbo lump crab meat in a vermouth sauce. The fire-roasted jumbo shrimp and scallops come with a mango-lemon citrus sauce. Still, the traditional Sicilian dishes are all here---spaghetti bolognese, meatballs and spaghetti, and rosemary lamb chops, to name a few. The best way to plan a Giovanni evening is to go early for happy hour at the adjacent Bella Baci lounge, and enjoy special drink prices and appetizers. On a Wednesday, Friday or Saturday evening you may enjoy dinner to the sounds of live opera vocals. Before you finish your meal, remember these three words: "Chocolate Lava Cake."
