Giovanni Ristorante Description:
Boasting a Manhattan pedigree, Giovanni landed in Nashville to high expectations. Unfortunately, Manhattan prices came along for the ride, but what's missing is consistent execution of even the most basic dishes. Occasionally Giovanni comes through, as in a dish of orecchiette with sausage and fennel. Other pasta dishes are also worth pursuing, as well as a plate of creamy risotto with impossibly tender bits of lamb right off the shank. The wine list contains more than a few fine Italian producers, but is extremely top-heavy, with only three bottles priced under $50. You definitely get your money's worth in terms of the ambience, however, as the entire dining room is striking, thanks to an enormous Murano glass chandelier. Ask for a seat on the upper level so you can ogle it up close.
