Tucked into the heart of one of the region's more conservative dining neighborhoods, Morton's could have become the stuffy modern equivalent of an Eisenhower-era men's club. Instead, a family in shirtsleeves gathers for a birthday celebration at one table, a couple of Rams football players and their wives dine with non-athletes at another. The interior is dark and glossy, with an open hearth that allows some diners to watch the kitchen working over the Prime beef and lobster. (Everything except the bread and butter is à la carte.) At these prices, service needs to be practically flawless, and it generally is. The beef is topnotch, from the double-cut filet to the least expensive dishes. Very much in line with the luxe experience are the soufflés, which we highly recommend.
