El Rancho Grande Description:
Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera prints cover the walls at this festive Mexican restaurant off of Lincoln Road. The eatery brims with home-cooking aromas emanating from platters of enchiladas, flautas, fajitas and less familiar (to Americans), authentic specialty items such as chicken mole poblano, jumbo shrimp with tomatoes and jalapeños, red snapper filets, and cochinita pibil, the Yucatan slow-cooked pork dish. Still, both diners and members of the bubbly staff seem less concerned with food than they are with the well-crafted margaritas---and with reason. The selection of 150 tequilas is impressive as is the reasonable cost for a nine-ounce Cuervo Gold margarita. The Don Julio margarita on the rocks suggests a slightly cayenne-infused lemonade, the way a margarita is intended to taste.
