Ago Description:
While this glamorous Italian restaurant has a far more appealing setting---a poolside and beachfront (though not ocean view) terrace that, at night, is romantically candlelit---than the trendy Shore Club's other upscale dining spot, Nobu Miami Beach, it has never made the splash that Nobu has. There's reason for that. Ago's food, mostly straightforward preparations from northern Italy (roughly Bologna on up), can be quite good, but it is wildly inconsistent: seafood fritto misto that's crisp-coated sometimes, but more often soggy; veal-stuffed ravioli (sometimes al dente, sometimes either over- or under-cooked) with porcini sauce that's beautifully bold at best, but frequently over-salty. And the list goes on, encompassing virtually the entire menu except the Tuscan vegetable soup (consistently good), the gnocchi (consistently mush), and the prices (all high, for what you get). Service is equally spotty, with servers sometimes accommodating, often with attitude. The place remains a predictably good locale for celebrity-spotting, but that likely has more to do with Ago's part-owner Robert De Niro than with the unpredictable food.
