Tamara Description:
With the exception of a very brief period in the late 1990s, when chef Marvin Woods was at the helm, this Art Deco hotel's visually striking indoor-outdoor restaurant has been the most unpublicized on its beachfront strip (which houses celebrity magnet spots like the Blue Door, Social Miami and Nobu). And, admittedly, the food has gone through periods when such obscurity was deserved. But chef Frederic Delaire has been turning out solid French and Italian Riviera-influenced fusion fare that deserves far more attention: a saffron-scented Provençal soupe de poissons; healthful red snapper, steamed in a bag with fresh fennel; fresh tagliatelle with morel mushrooms and Périgord truffle cream sauce; a luxe truffle-perfumed white pizza. Still, Tamara's most unique appeal comes during the morning, as there are few spots lovelier for breakfast (or more impressive, if you're entertaining business guests) than the tropical deck terrace that overlooks The National's 205-foot-long swimming pool; the bananas Foster french toast is almost as remarkable.
