Big Fish Mayaimi Description:
BIG FISH IS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS. A small wood-frame house opening onto the industrial Miami River, this is one of the most picturesque spots in the city---and its location in the downtown warehouse district makes it one of the most difficult to find. Getting lost may be par for the course, but when you arrive you'll find solid Mediterranean seafood specialties and the most mesmerizing of Miami skyline views. The ambience can't be beat, as a huge bar wraps around a giant oak tree, and an oversized pine deck is a cozy retreat sheltered only by a tin roof and cooled by ceiling fans. The entire staff is Italian and passionate about the place, which feels more like somebody's private home than a public eatery. The food is home-style as well, golden brown crab cakes, pastas and risotti, and solidly prepared fish specials such as walnut-crusted filet of sea bass, grouper baked with artichokes, and whole yellowtail snapper fried and served with a lemon-ginger sauce. The moderately priced beer and wine list is brief, but innovative. Fridays draw quite a crowd at the Fish, but even then you'd best leave the high heels and dress pants behind---the best way to savor your dinner here is within the context of casual relaxation.
