Itta Bena Restaurant Description:
The neon lights of famed Beale Street hide this funky, casual spot, so go around to the Second Street side of BB King's Night Club and up the fire-escape stairs to find Itta Bena (named after King's hometown). The shabby-chic speak-easy ambience gives the venue a party-time feel, and the Delta-inspired American menu is more than a cut above the usual Beale Street fare. Standouts include the mussels in spicy, citrusy broth and the pan-seared halibut. Skip the so-so signature pasta, but don't miss the house-made yeast rolls. The restaurant boasts extra sound-proofing, but you can still hear the occasional thunderous drum beat from the live bands downstairs at BB's. Note: This restaurant is not handicapped accessible. One must be able to navigate a formidable flight of fire-escape-type stairs.
