Pana Thai Description:
Knowing that this is a Nick Srisawat restaurant, and thus kin to the Tara Thai empire, should please patrons who discover the restaurant in the heart of suburban Maryland. Small and unpretentious, Pana Thai nonetheless has a fairly complete menu with a few items that might please even those tired of the cuisine. Take the grilled marinated pork: Although it's an appetizer, you could possibly make a whole meal by pairing it with the fried fish cakes and fried tofu. Of course, no Thai meal is complete without a noodle dish or two, and we vote for the pad see ew, a composition of flat rice noodles garnished with broccoli (not the more traditional Chinese broccoli, however). This dish is mild enough for those fearful of chilies, yet spunky enough to carry plenty of flavor. Of course, if you like it hot, you should order the Drunken Noodles. A very limited dessert menu includes an odd choice: fried ice cream, a decidedly non-Thai offering.
