Seviche Description:
Louisville has few Latin-inspired restaurants, but Seviche all by itself counts as several. Proprietor-chef Anthony Lamas' menu features dishes from nearly every Latin cuisine from Mexico south to Argentina, as well as from the Caribbean islands. (An occasional Asian or Continental accent sneaks into dishes, too.) Classic Brazilian feijoada is a fixture. If you don't need that much meat, order Lamas' signature macadamia-crusted sea bass. But you may not even make it to the entrée portion of the menu because the variety of appetizers and ceviches offers so many tempting flavors that you'll graze away your appetite on multiple little plates. When faced with choices such as steamed mussels in cilantro-ginger broth, spicy chicken or beef and potato empanadas, and rocoto chile-rubbed shrimp, it's easy to order them all. Many of the ceviches are served with a giant tortilla "chip" that helps soak up juices. Favorites include crawfish with cilantro pesto and shrimp with avocado and tomato. The restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows that admit views of the passing bohemian scene. And the volume of the contemporary Latin soundtrack goes up as the hour grows late. The bar features tropical mixed drinks, imported craft beers and a new-world wine list. Fresh fruit sorbets, ice creams and cheesecakes (passion fruit, coconut, pomegranate) change frequently.
