Whether you choose to sit at a high table in the busy bar, in one of the dining rooms with plate-glass window views of the sidewalk crowd, or in a cozy booth in the very back room, the Uptown provides a relaxed atmosphere for lunch or dinner. Both the menu and décor, accented with framed Wiener Werkstätten posters and tasteful faux finishes, will have enticed you to linger at The Uptown. The scope of dishes ranges from savory appetizers to entrée salads, pastas (whole and half portions available) and filling main dishes. The shrimp bisque is a velvety favorite. Cornmeal-crusted fried oysters are perfect for sharing. The house Caesar salad comes in side or main dish portions, and has the right ratios of garlic and anchovies to greens. Pasta dishes include linguine with sesame chicken served in a lemon cream, and the signature duck ravioli. Main plates offer traditional Southern comforts or international flavors. They include chicken piccata, maple chipotle-rubbed pork tenderloin with shiitake bourbon brown sauce and cheese grits, and grilled salmon with wasabi soy and steamed spinach. A table laden with eye-popping desserts dominates the front dining room, a reminder to save room for "Chocolate Seduction" or the lightest strawberry napoleon you will ever taste. All wines on the list are offered by the glass, since the Uptown has a special wine-conserving cabinet in the bar.
