Or come during the quieter dinner hours, as we sometimes do. Even a wait is well worthwhile for some of the best, most generous, bargain-priced bowls of Japanese soup noodles around, big enough to share easily but so delicious you'll be reluctant to do so. Huge skeins of slender, chewy-tender ramen noodles are immersed in steaming hot meat broth---plain or enriched with soy sauce or miso. Uniformly high-quality topping combos include sliced Chinese-style barbecued pork, a spicy mabo mixture of tofu and ground pork, light stir-fries of chicken breast or pork with mixed vegetables, and delicate wontons. Don't miss an order of Asahi's gyoza, Japan's take on Chinese potstickers---bite-sized, delicate crescent-shaped dumplings, crispy and browned on one side, stuffed with a succulent seasoned pork mixture. No wonder we never turn away when we encounter a line here.
