Red 8 specializes in the fare of China's Canton, sprinkled with the flavors of Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia. For starters, we like the Malaysian chicken satays with chunky, crunchy peanut sauce and the Cantonese pot stickers. The array of dim sum includes steamed vegetable buns and steamed prawn dumplings. Among Red 8 favorites are the roast duck noodle soup in a heady broth, and simple dishes such as roasted pork or soy chicken served over fragant rice. Wok-fried noodles such as pad thai flat rice noodles and shrimp; and curried Singapore rice vermicelli with shredded pork, shrimp, egg and bean sprouts are also winners. So are the drinks, including guava mango and papaya nectars, teas, Vietnamese coffee, beer, saké and wines, and specialty drinks such as the Bangkok Smash---lemon grass-infused Stoli vodka with vanilla liqueur, coconut milk, pineapple and lime leaves. Mango and coconut puddings are refreshing sweet finales. Red 8 welcomes children five years and older.
