Location: Located in the southwest of Liaoning Province, Jinzhou City neighbors Shenyang in the east and Huludao in the west. It falls back on the Songling Mountains in the north and is facing the Liaodong Bay of the Bohai Sea in the south.
History: During the Spring and Autumn Period (770BC-476BC) and Warring Stated Period (476BC-221BC), this area belonged to Yan Kingdom. In the Qin (221BC-206BC) and Han (206BC-220AD) dynasties, it was included in shires or tributaries in present Liaoning. The name of Jinzhou initiated since the Liao Dynasty (916-1125).
Physical Features: The terrain of Jinzhou declines from northwest to southeast. In the northwest and northeast of the city stand the Songling Mountains and Yiwulu Mountains. Southward to the coastal plain area, the average altitude drops to 20 meters (66 feet) or even lower.
Climatic Features: Jinzhou enjoys a temperate monsoon climate at middle latitudes. Difference in temperature varies greatly during the whole year. It has distinct four seasons with an average temperature around 8-9 degree centigrade (46.4-48.2 degree Fahrenheit)
When to Go: For the consideration of weather, April to October is the golden season to Jinzhou, while for the fascinating snowscape and folk festivals, January to February is the best period for traveling.

Local Highlights: Every year, many Buddhist and unique folk activities will be held in the North Putuo Mountain (a sacred Buddhist mountain correlated with the South Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang), attracting numerous travelers and pilgrims from near and far.
Scenic Spots:
Bijia Mountain is situated of the coast of the Bohai Sea adjacent to Jinzhou Port. Bijiashan Island and Sky Bridge are the key scenic spots in the mountain resort. The Sky Bridge is exactly a 1,620-meter-long (1772-yard-long) sand and pebble road between the island and the seashore, which dodges in and out of the water as the tide changes. The Sanqing Pavilion is must go spot in the scenic area. It is a stone wooden-like building without a nail standing in the top of the mountain, from which visitors can have a bird view of the beautiful vast sea. In addition, there are forty-eight Buddhas sacrificed in the pavilion.

Tourist Tips:
1. Jinzhou Airport is about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) from downtown Jinzhou. At present, it operates four flights a week to Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Flights to Guangzhou and Yantai have been opened, respectively two flights a week in Monday and Friday. Furthermore, it also has connecting flights transferring through Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to many other big cities, including Xian, Chongqing, Huangshan, Guilin, Urumqi and Kunming.
2. Jinzhou has two railway stations. The north station (old) is located in the Yan'an Road in city proper. Light buses and minibuses to the Bijia Mountain can be easily found in the special bus line station 100 meters (109 yards) west of the railway station. The whole course will cost forty minutes or a bit longer. The south railway station is in the suburban area, but it is nearer to the Bijia Mountain. For great instance to the main road, taking taxies is a better choice to the scenic area. Notable is that visitors visiting the coast in Bijia Mountain should inquiry about the time of tidal variations in case danger happens.
3. Jinzhou central long-distance bus station: No.1, fourth section of Yan'an Road, Linghe District, on the opposite of the north railway station.
