Blt Steak Description:
After twenty-six years as the legendary Le Dôme, this Sunset Boulevard address has given way to a stylish steakhouse. Gone are the famous circular bar and the small dining rooms. The now large, singular space is divided by a long center banquette, with a smaller terrace and the bar facing the entrance. The décor is straightforward, with grayish walls, a walnut floor, suede seats and beautiful Macassar ebony tables. Choose your dinner from the very bistro-like menu or off of the blackboard displayed on the wall. Though this is a steakhouse, the seafood platter, which draws from the raw bar for its oysters, clams and crab, is popular. Crab cakes, hamachi in yuzu vinaigrette, bluefin toro and salads are other appetizer options. The steaks range in quality, cuts and prices (from $24 to $92). They come with the sauce of your choice, as does seafood such as the Dover sole, crispy red snapper or black bass. Of the potato dishes, we particularly like the gratin. Vegetables include a creamy spinach, roasted tomatoes and braised carrots. A nice selection of artisanal cheeses is available before dessert. The peanut butter-chocolate mousse with banana ice cream, despite its description, is somewhat light. The crêpe soufflé is large enough to share. The wine list is rather short, offering mostly French and American selections. Don't forget to ask for the bread, which comes in the form of a warm popover topped with melted Gruyère cheese. Be prepared to take your time, since service is sometimes slow.
