Panda Pavilion Description:
The restaurant's somewhat generic name might imply a typical Chinese take-away; however, Panda Pavilion in Greenwich is a full-service eatery featuring authentic Chinese cuisine from the Cantonese, Szechuan and Hunan provinces. There's also a Japanese menu. The casual but elegant setting includes an impressive tank of tropical fish and subtle Chinese decorative accents. Try the gai soong minced chicken with mushrooms, vegetables and cashews wrapped in lettuce, served with a soy blend sauce, for an interesting combination of textures. The sesame paste served with the Szechuan dumplings presents a refreshing alternative to the overly pungent peanut sauce that typically accompanies this dish. The entrée menu is considerably more Chinese-American-inspired, with reliable favorites such as shredded beef with spicy sauce served with rice, and chicken with mushrooms and vegetables. They are well prepared, but not particularly impressive, although satisfying.
