South City Kitchen Vinings Description:
The second location of Midtown's South City Kitchen is anchored by a 1,200-bottle wine wall that draws attention to this important aspect of dining in the present-day South. Signature classic low country dishes include shrimp and grits (often joined by scallops) or she-crab soup. Gently sautéed chicken livers come with caramelized onions and country ham. And, of course, there are the requisite fried green tomatoes, a staple of the Upland South. While most of the flavors are authentic South, some course correction could be considered. The properly-cooked pork chop comes with pesto-infused mashed potatoes, something no self-respecting Southerner would ever consider---nor should. The flavors don't work. And the corn-dog style shrimp to be dipped in ketchup is a stretch. On the lunch menu, though, the catfish Reuben works like a charm. While most of the menu replicates the standards at Midtown, some brunch dishes signal an independent streak at this location, like the skillet crab cake topped with a poached egg, and homemade sausage gravy with buttermilk biscuits.
