Jaymar Colombian Breeze Description:
This family-style Colombian restaurant, with its tiny kitchen and tinier-still dining room, is a find in upwardly mobile Kentlands. The authentic fare includes tajadas de platano (fried soft plantain), arepa rellena de carne (corn cakes filled with meat), morcilla (Colombian sausage filled with rice) and tamal tolimense (a corn cake wrapped in a banana leaf). Dishes with more of a ring of familiarity to them run to the chicharron (usually this is crispy pork, but here, it is crispy pork rind) and the chuleta de pollo (a chicken filet that has been battered and pan-fried). Oh, and did we mention the cooling soursop milkshake? For the uninitiated, it's a bit like drinking a piña colada over ice and with no rum. Jaymar does itself proud with its tres leches cake.
