Wild East Description:
For fans of the Far East, it's hard not to go buck wild here. Spanning the Orient, from Korea to Malaysia with a bit of Hawaii thrown in along the way, the minimally chic Wild East offers up 150 choices (yes, we counted). But while cultural confusion is a possibility, this place runs more toward Chang Dynasty than P.F. Chang's. Dishes ranging from spicy beef noodle salad to sea scallops sautéed with pea pods and baby corn in white wine sauce hold true to their ethnic influences, and impressed us with their quality ingredients. Baby shrimp cups---wonton skins topped with plump and sticky sweet-sour shrimp (hardly babies, these)---and crispy, spice-rubbed duck are especially memorable. Some oddities do pop up: chicken glazed with coffee and sautéed with string beans, for instance, or smashed sweet potatoes and beer-battered asparagus as side dishes. But for the most part, the restless menu results in success, and the nattily dressed servers, who wear all black and have a red pouch slung across their chests in lieu of aprons, are friendly and responsive.
