Kaiyo Description:
This Japanese and Sushi restaurant serves many classic dishes as well as local fishes. On average prices are moderate, but specialty items will increase the check substantially.
If you need to step that vacation relaxation up (or would that be down?) a notch, Kaiyo is a soothing spa experience and rewarding dining option wrapped into one. From a colorful mosaic, to artist-crafted pottery and glassware on the tables, to original creations hanging on the walls, the restaurant announces itself as a creative environment. The menu, for its part, interprets regional and seasonal products (both wild and farmed) through a repertoire of Asian flavorings. The whole baby snapper is tempura-fried and served with hoisin and ponzu sauces, as are local Keys fried prawns. From the sushi bar, there's a Key lime lobster roll, a tempura mahi roll and the "Kaiyo roll" of stone crab, wahoo, and spiced sunflower seeds. Katsu, or Japanese panko-fried chicken, pork or fish comes "Caribbean" style, with a side of fried plantains and hearts of palm. It's like going to Asia, with one foot still warm in the Florida Keys sands.
