Jiko - The Cooking Place Description:
Jiko---The Cooking Place is the signature restaurant for Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, where cuisines from the 52 countries of Africa are harmoniously melded with influences from Europe, India and Asia. The menu is authentic without being too exotic, and it's all appealing: maize-crusted fish served with a rich tomato beurre blanc, for instance, or a vibrant marinated chicken with salty, tangy Moroccan flavors. You can make an entire meal of the imaginative appetizers, like the kalamata olive flatbread, braised beef rolled in crêpe-like sheets or a seared ostrich filet. The wine list offers exclusive South African vintages that rarely are available in the U.S., with many of the 65 options available by the glass. If you want a sweet ending, go for the Kenyan coffee ice cream served with warm, crisp spiced donuts. Jiko's artful interior, the work of noted restaurant designer Jeffrey Beers, is inspired by Disney's The Lion King, with muted earth tones and stylistic white birds gracefully suspended from the ceiling. Twin wood-burning ovens are the centerpieces of the open kitchen in the 235-seat dining room.
