Crave Description:
Crave, located in the Galleria, offers soup, salads, sandwiches, steak, fish, chicken, and sushi. The setting is warm and inviting from the bubbling stone fountain on the summer patio to the crackling fireplace and open kitchen with ceiling-high brick oven. Watch chefs prepare hand-tossed pizzas, fresh pastas and sizzling steaks or maki, nigiri or sashimi. Brunch is served 10am-3pm Sundays for about $10, and includes a free for under age 8 kids menu. Daily happy hour specials from 4-6 and 9-close.
After browsing through Tiffany and Crate & Barrel, smart Galleria shoppers take refuge at Crave. Design-wise it's got a little bit of everything: a showy demonstration kitchen, a watch-them-work sushi bar, a walk-through wine vault, a see-and-be-seen bar and a patio so appealingly landscaped and outfitted that one barely notices it overlooks a shopping mall parking lot. The menu is similarly designed to appeal to every craving (get it?). Because its customer base consists primarily of women, the kitchen knows how to creatively toss a salad, and while there are few surprises among the entrées---rotisserie chicken, grilled tuna, slow-braised short ribs---all are prepared with finesse. Skip the so-so pizzas but don't overlook the sushi, especially the value-oriented platters designed for sharing. Sunday's à la carte brunch is a highlight, with fruit-stuffed pancakes, super-gooey, glazed cinnamon rolls, a fine ham-spinach quiche and a crab-asparagus omelet that could easily satisfy two. Free live jazz is a reason to drop in on Thursdays.
