The Monocle on Capitol Hill Description:
The Monocle has long been a favorite spot of Capitol Hill people watchers. The walls are decorated with pictures of some of the political celebrities that have paid their visits. It is not uncommon to see lobbyists and powerful staffers-- and the occasional member-- dining on the seafood or steaks, though most of the smoke-filled room wheeling and dealing takes place in the private rooms upstairs, or on weekends, when the whole restaurant is rented out for fundraisers or private parties.
At The Monocle, the closest restaurant to the Senate side of the Capitol, you can almost always count on seeing political celebrities. Its private rooms upstairs are the location for countless political fundraisers. But although it's known mainly as a power place, the food is better than one might think. The kitchen turns out fine versions of Mid-Atlantic regional favorites: crab cakes, grilled and fried fresh fish, homey pot roast and, of course, steaks and chops.
