Its set-price multicourse business lunches make it popular with downtown executives, including those in the nearby offices of the International Monetary Fund. Despite the sumptuous setting, however, the family-style dishes are reasonably priced, making this branch of the international chain appetizing to young couples and fans of Indian cuisine.
One of the grande dames of local Indian luxury restaurants, the Bombay Palace sets a standard that others have imitated but few have surpassed. The attentive service will make you feel like a maharajah, yet the prices are reasonable. Expect consistently good versions of all the Indian standards. The spicy lamb vindaloo has an outstanding depth of flavor under the heat. Chicken, first cooked in the tandoor, is then finished in a butter-enriched tomato sauce. Don't miss the breads, one of the glories of Indian cookery, which are done exceptionally well here.
