The Broker Description:
Located in the old Denver National Bank building, the restaurant is situated in an old bank vault. Diners now occupy booths once used by bank customers to inspect their safety deposit boxes. The European antiques are dark cherry wood, and the vault itself, including the huge round door, remains to make The Broker one of Denver's most unique restaurant settings.
This venerable Denver landmark-launched in 1972-has been on the A-list of Denverites and D-town visitors for years. It's also gone on to launch sister locales around town. What's the big attraction? It's housed in a former bank building vault, one of the more unusual dining room settings in the city. Today, payments of old-school Victorian ambience and traditional American West dining replace gazing at the valuables and important papers. The Broker has launched a newer tradition of its own---a complimentary bowl of chilled peel-and-eat shrimp that has endeared the house to many. It's a wonderful touch that weighs in at over a pound; we love it. The house also serves up other riches including a rare-in-Denver ceviche of scallops, and protein-heavy plates of meat and seafood. Filets come in beef and buffalo versions---a nice western nod; the dry-aged porterhouse is massive. The slabs of halibut and salmon are also popular. Some snicker at the Broker as a place past its prime, with food relying on bygone glory. But longtime locals and big business lunch and dinner crowds don't seem to agree.
