Leatherby's Cafe Rouge Description:
Most patrons come to this Patina Group outpost at the ultra-modern Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall for pre- or post-theatre dining, but Leatherby's Café Rouge is truly a spot for fine dining any time. The interior décor is minimalist for good reason: the concert hall's undulating, transparent walls set the scene for sophisticated drama. Chef Don Schoenburg has left the kitchen at Leatherby's. Still, Patina Group chefs continue to create light, yet full-bodied classic French and modern American dishes. Some opt for the nightly three-course prix-fixe menu. Others are smart to start with the cheese or charcuterie platters or such appetizers as the foie gras torchon with sour cherry chutney and walnut vinaigrette. Main courses delight the palate as well, like the Maple Leaf duck breast with couscous, lima beans, sautéed baby carrots and Cirello black cherry sauce. Another standout entrée is the tender Prime filet of beef, which comes with a fluffy Stilton cheesecake, marinated portobello mushrooms and a piquant huckleberry bordelaise sauce. The desserts are just as dramatic as the restaurant's exterior, so don't miss out on Leatherby's theatrical meal-enders. The wine list here is extensive, with well-chosen vintages mostly from France and California.
