This hip New American café is located inside The Closet fashion boutique on Newport Boulevard, but find the real entrance off East 18th Street. The décor in the somewhat cramped dining room is woodsy-mellow and modern chic at the same time; head for the corner banquette for some comfort. Chef and co-proprietor Eric Doran serves up fare featuring fine seasonal ingredients and reinvented comfort food classics. At breakfast, don't miss the inventive omelets or the signature crunchy-and-creamy Mexican chilaquiles. Sandwiches and burgers at lunch can be accompanied by the killer truffle Parmesan fries or fried green tomatoes. At dinner, more Southern-style food shows up on the plate, like fried chicken with five-cheese macaroni and cheese. Also, try the grilled chicken paillard and the tender hanger steak.
