L'Albatros Description:
Leave it to chef Zack Bruell, known for Parallax Restaurant & Lounge in Tremont, Table 45 at the InterContinental Cleveland and Chinato, to open up Cleveland's most authentic French concept in University Circle. L'Albatros fills this town's French niche with its fine food and service, and low prices. In fact, of the twenty-plus regular entrées, only a handful cost more than $20, and even those don't top $24. Behold the "French Toast" with a ragoût of wild mushrooms and balsamic syrup---rich and earthy in all the right ways. Meanwhile, the cassoulet features beautifully braised white beans, and the croque monsieur is dressed in béchamel sauce. Desserts include a classic crème caramel, a citrusy frozen lemon soufflé, and a peach and almond tart served with burnt caramel ice cream. There's a large, thoughtful beer and wine list (many vinos are available by the pour) to complement the menu. Servers are intuitive and deliberately paced allowing diners to truly savor the experience.
