Crop Bistro & Bar Description:
Apart from a few large-format photos of vegetables, Crop's décor consists of little more than a handsome room of sturdy tables and wide-back chairs with comfortable banquettes and a bar area that blends seamlessly with the dining room. Nearly every seat has a view into the display kitchen, where chef-owner Steve Schimoler prepares dishes that are fresh and inventive. The aptly named Cherry Bomb is anything but subtle; the colorful starter involves a wonton-wrapped Roma tomato that's stuffed with Jack cheese and chorizo. The Ohio apple and Amish smoked cheddar flatbread pays homage to farm country, while the seared Hudson Valley foie gras with toasted challah and gingered apricots reminds you why dining out can be such a pleasure. Additional main courses, like lamb sliders or the Ohio Valley omelet, are arranged by easily recognizable protein-vegetable-starch categories. Other than that, it's anyone's guess as to how Schimoler will make food do his bidding. The restaurant attracts a brisk bar business on weekend nights. Whether this is due to the eatery's prime location or the long, appealing list of libations is up for debate.
