Fiddlehead Cafe Description:
Seasonality (and sustainability) is emphasized at this wine-conscious eatery, with an oft-changing menu---augmented by cheese and charcuterie plates---that is a welcome option in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. Textured walls and earthy tones create a muted backdrop for the lively fare; a fern-like, wrought iron railing drives the idea of its namesake plant home. The menu highlights---though it's the type that's full of things you'd like to order---include smoky, house-cured, bacon-braised, pancetta-wrapped monkfish with cannellini beans and figs as well as a deluxe duck confit sandwich graced with cherry-red wine jam, creamy goat cheese and duck liver mousse. The cheese selection goes beyond the norm to include in-your-face rosemary Manchego from Spain and triple-cream Fleur de Lis from Kentucky. There's good sangrĂa, too, and an easy-to-navigate wine list with selections available by the flight.
