La Bocca della Verita Description:
If you want to take a Roman holiday without leaving town, this friendly neighborhood spot is the ticket. Decorated with stills from the eponymous film and named "The Mouth of Truth" for an old stone sculpture (a replica of which hangs near the entrance), it feels (and usually tastes) totally authentic. Start with the cold antipasto plate, a caprese salad, carpaccio or prosciutto and melon. It's hard to go wrong with any pasta---from spaghetti carbonara to fettuccine with porcinis---but duck ravioli with tomato-cream sauce is the house specialty (with good reason). Homey pollo alla Romana is a winning main course, as is moist sea bass baked in salt according to an old recipe. The Italian wine list harbors some red finds. Kiku, warm custard with berries and cinnamony apples, and covilio, espresso ice cream with brandied cherries and biscotti, are as tasty as they are novel.
