These are the biggest Persian restaurants in the city, and bounteous meals at budget prices keep them busy. Your best bet is to go with a group and share, starting with vegetarian appetizers---velvety hummus, refreshing tabbouleh, kashkeh bodemjan (a dip of eggplant, caramelized onions, kurds and whey), falafel, stuffed grape leaves. Most of the main courses are kebabs, available individually or in countless combinations. Don't overlook braised lamb shank, stews and anything in rich sweet-tart pomegranate sauce thickened with ground walnuts. Raw vegetables and feta cheese, pita bread, lentil soup and rice---either plain or flecked with dill and lima beans---come with meals. You can order most wines by the glass or bottle. Desserts disappoint, as does the service much of the time.
