Brasserie Jo Description:
This brasserie is very nice and chic in a casual sort of way. As an added plus, it's also the sort where you know what you're going to get. Chicago's answer to Paris's La Coupole seats around 200, but the many tall, graceful palms and the soft lighting help create an almost intimate atmosphere with mirrors all around. The winter garden in front of the main dining area is choice seating. As befits a true brasserie, there are classic plats du jour: beef medallions bordelaise, lobster bouillabaisse and roast chicken with red cabbage. Expect a nice selection of tarte flambés, including a classic version with fromage blanc, onion and bacon; don't miss the onion soup. Our favorite dessert is the profiteroles. The wine list is tout French, but the choices from Alsace are the ones to try; there are also a number of French and Belgian beers. Chef-owner Jean Joho is well known for his Everest, one of Chicago's best French restaurants.
