East Coast Grill Description:
Known for their grilled fare and seafood, this restaurant has been an Inman Square fixture since 1985. They are also known for their "Hell Nights" which feature very spicy food. The chef/owner has written several cookbooks.
The restaurant has a pay parking lot across the street. Metered street parking is also available.
Reservations are only available for groups of 5 or more, and only on Sun.-Thu.
Chris Schlesinger and his funky bunch of cooks helped put the fun back into fine dining. His flagship restaurant, East Coast Grill, is a stage for his rock-and-roll version of global cooking. The theory here is that the closer one gets to the equator, the more flavor there is in the food. Expect the chile-fueled heat of the Caribbean, the grill-savvy of Latin American cuisine, and the dynamism of Asia when you order from the seafood- and barbecue-heavy menu. The Inman Square location draws a crowd that's as different as the three-part set-up---one with an open kitchen, one with a Polynesian theme, and one with a raw bar. Local academics make a habit out of the Bloody Mary brunch. Tourists flip coins over who is getting North Carolina-style pulled pork or the spice-rubbed mahi mahi with pineapple salsa. And everyone from bike-couriers to couples on date-night spear forkfuls of fun foods like gingered tuna-sausage dumplings and the infamous jerked Wings of Mass Destruction. Then there's the Hell Nights, when ECG rolls out special atomic-themed menu items guaranteed to char your taste buds.
